PCCW is offering a free public trial of its unlimited Wi-Fi service until July 31, 2012.

To try the Wi-Fi services, PCCW mobile said users can connect their smartphones and tablets to any designated Wi-Fi hotspot identified as PCCW Free, and then input the user’s name, mobile number, and the HKID card number’s first 4 digits on the registration page.

An activation code will be sent to the user’s handset by SMS for completion of the registration process, PCCW mobile added.

The hotspots support a range of OSes including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and UIQ.

According to PCCW, the free service isn’t available in universities, colleges, Airport Express trains, and MTR’s Kowloon Through Trains to Guangdong. Yet PCCW mobile hotspots are available in these facilities.

PCCW said in a statement that it has deployed close to 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Hong Kong.
