Jung Man-won takes helm at SK Telecom

SK Telecom has named Jung Man-won, head of affiliate SK Networks, as its new chief executive officer. Jung, 56, will replace Kim Shin-bae, who will move to SK C&C Co, as vice chairman as part of a management reshuffle. He will officially assume the role of president and CEO through the annual shareholders' meeting and board of directors' meeting, which are scheduled for March 2009.

GSMA elects new chairman

The GSMA has elected Alexander Izosimov, the group chief executive officer of VimpelCom, as its new chairman for a two-year term. He will help oversee the strategic direction of the GSMA, which represents more than 750 mobile operators worldwide. Bill Hague, executive vice president of AT&T, was elected as deputy chairman.

NSN appoints head of Asia south

Lars Biese will oversee all of Nokia Siemens Networks sales operations in Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Sri Lanka and Brunei, with effective January 1. He will also lead and manage the customer team for the SingTel Group across the region. Biese joined Nokia in 1998, and has held several executive level positions both in Europe and Africa

Inmarsat names new COO

Satellite communications group Inmarsat has appointed Perry Melton as its new chief operating officer, with effective from January 1, 2009. Melton takes over from Michael Butler, who will remain as president and an executive director of the company until April 30, 2009 when he leaves the business. Melton has been with Inmarsat for over 16 years, with his most recent role as VP of sales and marketing.

Uwe Schlager to head T-Systems Singapore

T-Systems, the enterprise customer unit of Deutsche Telekom, has appointed Uwe Schlager as managing director and chairman T-Systems Singapore, with effective March 1. 20009. He will also assume responsibilities for T-Systems Malaysia as head of corporate customers and member of the management board. Schlager succeeds Thomas Jakob, who will relinquish his role as CEO by end of February and assume a leading sales position at T-Systems for the Asia-Pacific region starting from September 1, 2009. Schlager is joining T-Systems from Daimler AG where he was the general manager of IT-Infrastructure for the regions Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
