Broadband, wireless technologies and multi-play, these are just some of the key themes that will be explored at ITU's forthcoming WORLD event, to be held in Hong Kong, China from December 4 to 8. Bringing together top names from the ICT industry and from government, WORLD will encompass a dynamic exhibition, a powerful forum, including the Youth Forum, a host of social and other activities.

Under the theme Living the Digital World, the event will explore the technologies, companies and organizations that are driving the digital world forward.

Top names
ITU's WORLD events encompass the full spectrum of the ICT industry, from the leading global names to new market entrants, plus a mix of national, regional and industry pavilions. The show floor will feature the world's top ICT names, including NEC, Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Intel, Alcatel, HP, Qualcomm, Samsung, Toshiba, Siemens and Motorola among many others.

At the heart of the show floor, attendees will find the TELECOM VILLAGE, a business networking hub set amid restaurants, cafç²Æ’ and open squares. The VILLAGE provides a calm, professional environment conducive to high-level discussions and meetings. Alongside the show floor will be the Digital Life Theater - a futuristic venue with a stage dedicated to commercial presentations, which will reflect the theme of the event.

From next-generation networks and their regulation to quad-play and digital content, forum sessions will enable detailed discussion on all core growth areas. The forum will feature many well known figures from the world of ICT, including John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems, Serge Tchuruk, chairman and CEO of Alcatel, Viviane Reding, a member of the European Commission, Tadashi Onodera, president of KDDI, and Kaoru Yano, president of NEC Corp.

These are just some of the top-level speakers who have already confirmed their participation at the forum. Within the central Living the Digital World theme, the forum will be split into three different domains: Digital Lifestyle, Digital Ecosystems and Digital Society.

The forum will also incorporate the Youth Forum, bringing together university students to discuss key issues relating to ICT development, and a Telecommunication Development Symposium, helping boost knowledge among telecoms managers in developing and low-income countries.

Global networking platform
'With all the different onsite opportunities it offers, WORLD provides an unrivalled global networking platform for the industry, one where heads of industry can meet with heads of governments,' explains Fernando Lagraî š, executive director of ITU TELECOM. 'At ITU TELECOM we understand the crucial need - in today's global ICT marketplace - for key players to be able to make the right connections, and our event will feature a host of ways to make this happen. We want to be sure that each and every visitor and participant at WORLD has the most productive and fulfilling time possible.'

As the United Nations agency for telecommunications, ITU is different from other event organizers and is unique in its ability to attract the key names to its events, not just from within the telecoms industry, but also from government and regulators.
