The Philippines' PLDT and wireless subsidiary Smart Communications have entered into a $300 million deal with Amdocs to upgrade and manage the business technology systems serving PLDT and Smart customers.

The seven-year managed transformation agreement covers the integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning and other advanced technologies into the operator's IT systems.

With the agreement Amdocs will meanwhile seek to improve business processes and service levels aimed at enhancing customer experience, while also helping PLDT and Smart accelerate their respective revenue growth while generating operational expenditure savings.

PLDT and Smart CEO Manuel Pangilinan said the agreement also involves managed services covering application development and maintenance across critical IT components including CRM, billing and subscription and campaign management.

“Our strategic collaboration with Amdocs is a key component of our digital transformation to enhance customer experience, engagement and product delivery,” he said.

“It is a partnership in real terms. And since this engagement takes the form of managed transformation services, certain manpower from our IT units would be offered career opportunities in Amdocs as regular employees. This represents a unique chance for these IT people to further build their careers in one of the leading software and services companies in the world.”
