Microvision announced a next-generation pico projector prototype"”a pocket-sized laser projector that connects to mobile phones, personal media players and other mobile devices.
The company is set to demonstrate the product at CEATEC in Tokyo, Japan
This new prototype provides a thinner, smaller and brighter PicoP engine and several image quality enhancements, according to Microvision. It also integrates new-generation green lasers, the company said.
Microvision's PicoP display engine is comprised of directly modulated light sources, custom-drive electronics and software, optical combiners and an EMS single scanning mirror.
The tiny scanning mirror is less than one square millimeter in area"”or about the size of the head of a pin.
It is designed to scan in both horizontal and vertical directions so that a single beam of light can be precisely steered, in a raster-like fashion, at very high speeds to project a complete video image.
Microvision added it has shipped prototypes to OEM customers for evaluation and end-user testing.
