The mobile broadband industry is in flux. As growth in customers, apps, smartphones and traffic continue to accelerate inexorably, it’s increasingly clear that the current service models are broken and must be replaced.

The purpose of this white paper is threefold: to set out the shortcomings of the broadband service model; set out what a new broadband service model might look like; and describe how state of the art policy management solutions might help to make that new model a reality.

The paper draws on a range of original research by Heavy Reading and Pyramid Research, including an extensive 2010 survey of network provider attitudes to the use of policy management tools.

The bottom line is that policy platforms must be adaptable and dynamic if they are to cope with the much more fluid service models that are coming as operators move into the Broadband 2.0 era.
