Predictable handsets

NTT DoCoMo's latest Big Idea for mobile living: handsets that literally predict your every move.
Under Japan's 'Information Grand Voyage' research project, DoCoMo is looking at ways to tap data from sensors in mobile phones, such as accelerometers, GPS and compasses, via software that can use that data - generated by your physical movements - to predict what your next actions will be and provide recommendations in advance.

Is it useful‾ They're still working on that. But a number of companies are looking at developing pedestrian apps for GPS, to include pedestrian warning systems to keep you from getting run over. A phone that can predict your next move could also warn you not to walk against the light.
