Prepaid wireless service drives online activity

Amid the economic downturn, US consumers are turning more and more to prepaid wireless services to connect to the Internet.

According to a recent comScore study, online activity continue to show strong gains despite the recession, as consumers turn to the use of cost-effective wireless service alternatives.

The combined visits to six leading US prepaid wireless sites – , (América Móvil),, (Leap Wireless), and (América Móvil) – has jumped 37% to nearly 8 million visitors, or more than 4% of the total US Internet audience.

Leading the growth are at 107% and at 105%, more than double the number of visits against last year.
