RAD Data Communications has upgraded its ASMi-54 SHDSL.bis modem to support both Ethernet and E1 over the same 4-wire connection.

The ASMi-54 attains data rates of up to 11.4 Mbps over a distance of 2.6 kilometers or 1.6 miles using 4-wire lines.

The modem also accommodates four Ethernet ports connected with an integrated switch alongside an E1 data stream.

By using HDLC encapsulation and working opposite SHDSL.bis repeaters, the ASMi-54 can support Ethernet or a combination of Ethernet and E1 services at higher rates over longer distances.
