Recession bites Tata Comm, Reliance Globalcom

Indian-based capacity carriers Tata Communications and Reliance GlobalCom continue to show the impact of the recession.

 

That is despite a much-improved bottom line for Tata Comms, whose income for the fourth quarter jumped to 2.82 billion rupees ($60.8m) from 821 million rupees a year earlier, thanks to a 2.81 billion rupee tax write-down.

 

The company announced that revenue from wholesale voice was off 36.6% to 29.6 billion rupees as operating profit for the segment fell 21.3%. In the enterprise and carrier data group, sales were down 18.0% to 32.6 billion rupees and profit declined 22.3%.

 

Total sales were fell from 99.9 billion rupees to 76.98 billion rupees.

 

Reliance Communications reported that sales from its global division had declined 12.5% sequentially to 19.8 billion rupees, with ebitda down 19.8% to 42 million rupees.
