Reliance Communications said its chief executive officer Vinod Sawhny has stepped down.

Sawhny, who joined Reliance Communications in 2014 from Bharti Airtel, resigned on September 30 and has been replaced by Bill Barney and Gurdeep Singh.

“William (Bill) Barney and Gurdeep Singh, who are already working with the company, will function as acting co-CEOs of the company with immediate effect,” the Indian telco said in a stock exchange filing.

Barney (pictured) currently oversees Reliance’s enterprise and carrier operations and Singh is the company’s wireless head. They will both serve as co-CEOs in addition to their present roles.

The announcement comes just a month after the Indian telco said it was to merge its mobile business with rival Aircel to create one of India's top four operators by customers and revenue.
