India's Reliance Jio Infocomm has attracted over 500,000 users to its LTE network despite being yet to publicly launch services.

The operator launched a full scale trial service for its employees and those of its partners and vendors late last year.

In a statement to shareholders, Reliance Jio revealed that these initial trials have gone smoothly and feedback has been very encouraging.

Within the first month of service, monthly consumption per user exceeded 18GB and average voice usage was over 250 minutes.

But Reliance Jio has been quiet on when it plans a public launch, only indicating that the commercial launch will happen this year.

Reliance Jio is the first operator in India to hold a nationwide unified license allowing it to offer pan-India 4G services.

Through its own holdings and spectrum trading arrangements with Reliance Communications, the operator is expected to have pan-India spectrum in the 800-MHz and 2300-MHz bands. The operator is also a partner in the newly-launched Bay of Bengal Gateway subsea cable system.
