The mobile device will become an even more integral part of consumers' lives over the next decade. Wireless technologies will bridge the barriers between the real world and the web, creating an augmented reality that enables consumers access to interactivity in ways never seen before.

For instance, the mobile device can recommend various products, services and friends to the consumer – whether they are shopping or at work. Body area networks, connected via the mobile device, will allow patients and doctors to monitor life-threatening situations ahead of time. Machines embedded with wireless chipsets will be able to communicate more effectively, increasing productivity and freeing up employees for other tasks.

This certainly implies a rethink in the way operators, vendors and developers approach business and revenue generation.
