Return of 'the floppy'

Those of us of a certain age will remember floppy discs, but now it looks like we’re in line for the next evolution – floppy phones.

Samsung is hotly tipped to be the first vendor likely to launch a device that can be rolled up, squashed into a pocket, or even bounced off the ground without any damage.

The manufacturer could launch its first commercial product in 2013, reports state. However, Samsung is unlikely to have things its own way for long – a host of other vendors including Sharp, Sony, Nokia, LG Electronics and Philips are also working on flexible phones.
