Sagem Orga of the Safran group and Telenor group demonstrated numerous use cases of the world’s first Wi-Fi-enabled SIM card at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

Equipped with a Telenor Wi-Fi module, Sagem Orga's wireless LAN SIM card communicates independently with all other devices in the mobile ecosystem to enable strong security services managed by the mobile network operator.

The card can be used in any kind of mobile phone to enable fixed-mobile convergence, proximity transactions, trusted peer-to-peer operations between two SIM cards, strong authentication services, WEB security and a large and varied set of use cases.

“This innovative technology has the capability of opening up new business opportunities for operators,” said Yogesh Malik, senior VP at Telenor.
