Singapore has the fastest mobile download speeds in Southeast Asia and Oceania, as well as the best mobile app coverage experience, according to Ericsson.

The vendor's latest Mobility Report shows that Singapore has both the fastest median download speeds in the region at over 20 Mbps, as well as the fastest peak download speeds of 70 Mbps.

By comparison, second-ranked Australia has a median download speed of around 12Mbps and a peak download speed of under 60Mbps.

All other countries studied in the region – Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand - have median speeds below 5Mbps and peak speeds below 20Mbps.

Singapore is one of the most mature ICT markets in SEA with LTE networks widely available and mobile broadband penetration exceeding 90%.

“With growth in smartphone subscriptions continuing, operators will need to focus on network performance to ensure quality of user experience,” Ericsson Singapore and Brunei president Nicholas Seow said.

“These strong results are supported by the investment in LTE networks by Singapore.”

Ericsson's Q1 mobility report also showed that mobile penetration in the APAC region now stands at around 110%, higher than that of North America but below regions including Eastern and Western Europe.
