Singapore’s year-long first Safe City Test Bed initiative has been completed.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Safety and Security Industry Programme Office (SSIPO), a strategic alliance between the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The partners have successfully tested innovative solutions and developed patent-pending technologies, including highly accurate facial recognition video analytics, NEC’s Media Analytics Platform, cross-site monitoring capabilities, authentication and digital signatures for video streams, as well as NEC’s Pervasive Display Network.

Some of the technologies tested include:
The Media Analytics Platform - enables multiple analytics engines to be plugged in, providing multiple sources of analytics and sensor data to identify, comprehend and anticipate an incident. Analytics engines can monitor visuals, sound, smell as well as temperature to identify abnormalities, so as to trigger alerts to ensure public safety. Applications for this technology include using it for flood monitoring, rubbish monitoring or ensuring safety at a public event.

Facial recognition video analytics - used in combination with location-aware analytics can enable cross-site monitoring capabilities. The first such innovation of its kind, the technology can be used to monitor, identify and track targeted persons across different cameras at different times through the correlation of data. With the ability to correlate data and incidents, fewer cameras are needed to track a person within a city.
