Singapore's SingTel has launched a mobile plan allowing travellers to Malaysia to data roam at prices close to local rates.

The operator's new S$10 ($8) per month DataRoam Saver add-on service will include 1GB of allocation. Excess data usage will be charged at just S$0.10 per MB.

A daily S$15 plan will also be available offering unlimited bundled data in Malaysia.

SingTel will send customers SMS reminders when they have reached 50% and 100% of their monthly allocation to help minimize bill shock.

According to SingTel vice president of consumer marketing Johan Buse, more than 250,000 of the operator's customers travel to Malaysia every month.

SingTel's regional affiliate in the Philippines, Globe Telecom, has meanwhile announced the return of its free Facebook offer for its 43 million mobile customers.

The company rolled out unmetered access to the Facebook mobile site to its prepaid, postpaid and Touch Mobile customers over the weekend. Prepaid customers will not be required to maintain a data balance to make use of the site.

Interested customers will need to register to make use of the offer by sending a free SMS.

Globe first launched a free Facebook offer in October last year in an attempt to increase its mobile data customer base.
