SingTel has announced the launch of international SMS roaming services in Myanmar.
The company is offering the service at the rate of S$0.60 ($0.48) per outgoing SMS, with incoming messages free.
The service has been launched in time for the Southeast Asian Games, which kicked off in capital city Naypyidaw yesterday.
News of the launch comes the same week SingTel revealed it has extended its 4G data roaming service into six new countries - Australia, South Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.
It's been a busy month for the Myanmar telecom sector. Last week the UAE's Ooredoo revealed it has signed a deal to with Digicel involving the latter's Myanmar joint venture rolling out telecom towers in the market, which Ooredoo can use to help it meet its mobile rollout targets.
Japan's NTT Com, NEC and Sumitomo also announced they have completed the rollout of telecom infrastructure including 50 LTE base stations and a 30Gbps fiber link between three major Myanmar cities.
