Softbank to hard-launch LTE in early 2012

He said the [AXGP] network is a key component for Softbank’s mobile internet strategy, which allows the company to cost-effectively accommodate the rapid growth in 3G data traffic due to the widespread use of smartphones and tablets.
 
The Japanese carrier is using the new 4G network to complementing its existing 3G mobile network, which has now carrying over 30 million subscribers, particular in hot zones and areas where most mobile data traffic is concentrated.

Softbank, along with China Mobile, Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Clearwire, is a founder member of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI). Launched in February, the GTI focus on promoting the fast development of LTE TDD technology, as well as the convergence of LTE TDD and FDD modes to maximize economies of scale, and sharing the ecosystem with other TDD technologies.
