ST-Ericsson CEO Alain Dutheil has announced he will step down, just seven months after the handset chip joint venture was formed.

He will be replaced by Texas Instruments veteran Gilles Delfassy from November 2. He worked for TI for 28 years until his retirement in 2007.

Dutheil will return to STMicroelectronics as COO. He said he had resigned because the joint venture has completed its initial stages.

“With Gilles joining us with his decades of wireless expertise and outstanding track record, the team will be even stronger and well positioned to achieve long term, profitable growth,” he said.

Incoming Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg has also replaced his predecessor, Carl-Henric Svanberg, as the chairman of the ST-Ericsson board.
