Taiwan's First International Telecom (Fitel) is using mobile Wimax solutions from Starent Networks to deliver high-bandwidth multimedia services.

Fitel has more than a million subscribers and last year acquired Wimax spectrum license covering Northern Taiwan.

According to Starent, Fitel will deploy the former's ST16 multimedia core platform in its Wimax network.

Fitel's deployment is part of the M-Taiwan project, a government initiative to create a Wimax ecosystem and create a city-wide broadband network to support wireless broadband services.

Fitel plans to complete initial deployment and start testing the Wimax network in downtown Taipei by the first half of 2008.
