Taiwanese regulator NCC has given initial approval for the seven companies which have applied to take part the nation's upcoming 4G auction.

All seven applicants have received high enough scores in an evaluation process to qualify to take part in the auction, Focus Taiwanreported, citing an NCC spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that while the regulator cannot predict how long the bidding process will take, it hopes to be able to conclude the process in November. Bidding is due to commence in September.

The seven companies had submitted their applications by early July. Incumbent 3G operators Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone and Asia Pacific Telecom are all participating.

Hon Hai affiliate Ambit Microsystems and two new telecom companies set up by Taiwanese conglomerates Ting Hsin International Group and Shinkong Group have also applied to take part.

A total of 270 MHz of LTE bandwidth in the 700-MHz, 900-MHz and 1800-MHz bands will be auctioned off. Allocations will be capped at 70 MHz. The NCC has set a base price for the auction of NT$35.9 billion ($1.2 billion).

In Bangladesh, five incumbent mobile operators have applied to participate in the nation's 3G auction, The Daily Starsaid.

Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, Banglalink, Airtel and Citycell have submitted applications. State-owned TeleTalk had already applied.

But the operators have asked regulator BTRC to resolve tax-related disputes before the auction takes place.

Bangladesh's telecom ministry had been hoping to attract the interest of international companies with the auction, and in February had amended the auction terms to allow more foreign participation. But no international players applied.
