Taiwan Mobile has contracted NSN to be the sole supplier for its LTE rollout, including equipment for LTE-Advanced.

Under the deal, NSN will supply base stations, evolved packet core technology and a network management system for Taiwan Mobile's multi-band LTE rollout.

The vendor will also provide carrier aggregation technology for an LTE-Advanced rollout in high-density areas combining the 700-MHz and 1800-MHz bands. The contract also covers network planning and optimization services.

NSN president for Greater China Markus Borchert said the company has been providing equipment for Taiwan Mobile since 1997. “NSN is now the sole supplier of Taiwan Mobile’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks,” he said.

Fellow Taiwanese operator Asia Pacific Telecom (APT) last week awarded Alcatel-Lucent an LTE contract that will allow it to start rolling out VoLTE shortly.

Taiwan Mobile and APT both secured LTE spectrum in last year's $4 billion 4G auction.

NSN separately announced yesterday that it has signed an MoU with ChinaCache to incorporate CDN technologies into NSN's Liquid Applications LTE content caching product.

Through the agreement, the companies plan to augment ChinaCache's existing CDN technologies with features including improved location capabilities, awareness of user behavior, and real-time adaptation to network conditions.
