Tata Communications and PCCW Global have teamed up to allow each operator to offer HD videoconferencing services to their respective enterprise customers.
The companies have signed APAC's first high definition video conferencing (HDVC) interconnect agreement.
Under the arrangement, the companies will interconnect their IPX and MPLS networks via a network-to-network interface.
The deal will allow PCCW Global customers to take advantage of the reach afforded by Tata Communications' round-the-world subsea cable ring. The latter will meanwhile be able to leverage the former's presence in 130 countries.
Tata Communications and PCCW Global signed an IPX peering deal last year to support voice over IPX, and this new agreement builds on that collaboration, covering expanded video and data capabilities.
Tata Communications CEO Rangu Salgame said the collaboration is indicative of a wider industry trend.
“There is a clear shift towards an open ecosystem between telecom providers in the Asia Pacific region,” he said. “Providers are now aligning and interconnecting their networks so traffic can travel between their networks seamlessly and at the highest possible quality.”
PCCW Global CEO Marc Halbfinger added that the operator plans to take advantage of the agreement “by making video call and conferencing a central part of current communications portfolios and by leveraging the extensive coverage capability and quality of service capabilities of IPX.”
