TCL reports growth in product shipment in October

TCL Communication Technology Holdings announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products in October and the first ten months of 2011.

In October, the group’s handsets and other products sales totaled 4,053,045 units, which included the sales of smartphones accounted of 204,196 units.

Meanwhile, 3,753,019 units were sold in overseas markets, remains stable as compared to last year, and 300,026 units were sold in the PRC, representing a year-on-year increase of 75%. For the first ten months of 2011, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products rose 25% year-on-year to 34,510,747 units, with 31,216,990 units sold in overseas markets, representing an increase of 22%.

Over the past few months, the purchasing power of consumers in certain markets has been affected by the volatility of global economy, which in turn hindered the sales growth of the group’s handsets and other products. However, through the group’s successful geographical expansion into new markets, including high-potential markets, along with the success of the group’s “Step-up” product strategy and brand building efforts, the group continued to sustain its growth momentum.

The sales of smartphones, in particular, also maintained its growth momentum. To further enhance overall products sales and ASP, the Group will continue to step-up its efforts in product-mix optimization and development of higher-margin smartphones with advanced features. The Group is confident that the sales of smartphones will achieve a breakthrough in 2012.

To strengthen its brand reputation and expand its market share, the group continued to reinforce its product development. The group cooperated with NetEase, a leading Internet technology company in China, to launch a new cloud concept phone using Mediatek 3G Android chipset, Xiangyun A919. Xiangyun A919 features a number of innovative cloud applications, with hardware, design and pricing specially tailored to suit the customers. The cooperation of TCL Communication and NetEast symbolizes the start of the group’s development of cloud-based smartphones.
