TCL Communication announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products for May 2012.

In May 2012, the group’s handsets and other products sales totaled 3,522,171 units, representing a year-on-year decrease of 2%. Sales of smartphones totaled 506,391 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 1,791%, and its proportion to the group’s total shipment reached 14%.

Meanwhile, 576,815 units were sold in the PRC, representing an increase of 58%; 2,945,356 units were sold in the overseas markets, representing a year-on-year decrease of 8%.

For the first five months of 2012, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 14,286,488 units, representing a decrease of 9% compared to last year; while 2,256,263 units were sold in the PRC market, representing an increase of 89%, and 12,030,225 units were sold in the overseas markets.

In spite of the slower demand growth for the global handset market, the group continues to expand its market presence. Riding on the “step-up” strategy and continuous product development, the group launched more new products to broaden its product portfolio in the second quarter of the year.
