China Techfaith Wireless Communication Technology and D Magic Mobile (Shanghai) have entered into a strategic cooperation deal to develop a licensed high-end phone under the Barbie brand in China.
The partnership plans to capitalize on the brand\'s 50th anniversary this year to deliver the first high-end customized phone to the market, targeting women.
Defu Dong, TechFaith chairman and CEO, said the partners aim at developing a cellphone with a market price above 10,000 Renminbi (about $1,460).
The Barbie Mobile Phone is currently in development and is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2009.
