Johan Wibergh leaves Ericsson to join Vodafone as CTO

Ericsson has announced recently that its network business head Johan Wibergha has step down from his position, and Hans Vestberg has, in addition to his role as president and CEO, assumed the role as head of segment networks.

Wibergh joined Ericsson in 1996 and has since held a number of executive positions within the company. Since 2008 Wibergh has also been part of Ericsson's executive leadership team.

Although stepping down from his position immediately, Wibergh will remain available to Ericsson until April 30, when he formally leaves the company.

Wibergh will join British mobile giant Vodafone Group as CTO in May, succeeding Steve Pusey, who will retire on July 31.

Bhaskar Gorti to lead Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Platforms unit

Alcatel-Lucent has appointed former Oracle executive Bhaskar Gorti to lead its IP Platforms business.

As president of IP Platforms, Gorti will oversee business units developing technologies for cloud-based networking and virtualization, including NFV (network functions virtualization), as well as OSS, the charging/policy/payments activity, customer experience management, network performance, and the cyber-security monitoring and prevention software platforms.

Gorti will also join the Alcatel-Lucent executive committee and report directly to CEO Michel Combes.

Gorti joins Alcatel-Lucent from Oracle where he was senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Communications global business unit.

Gorti’s appointment comes a week after Alcatel-Lucent named Luis Martinez-Amago as CEO of its China venture, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell.

Outbrain names executives for Asia

Content discovery platform provider Outbrain has announced two executive appointments as part of the firm’s continuous expansion into Asia market.

Anthony Hearne has taken up a new role of regional director for SEA, India & New Markets, and Gulshan Verma is now general manager for SEA & India.

Hearne spent the past 20 years in various marketing functions across agency, client and publisher businesses. Prior to joining Outbrain, Hearne was market director of NewsCorp’s paid content strategy in Australia.

Before that, Hearne spent seven years at SingTel Optus, which included running marketing for Optus’ consumer division and a stint as Marketing Director, Virgin Mobile.

Gulshan has over 15 years of experience in the digital media industry. Previously the country manager of Outbrain India, he was responsible for leading the setup and growth of Outbrain in the country.
