Telenor names Michael Patrick Foley CEO for Pakistan subsidiary

Telenor Group has appointed Michael Patrick Foley as the new chief executive officer of Telenor Pakistan. He replaces Lars Christian Iuel, who will take up a senior management position in Telenor Group in Norway.

Foley currently serves as the chief commercial officer of the Canadian State Lottery, Atlantic Lottery Corporation. He will assume his new role on July 1.

Foley, a Canadian citizen, has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and operational experience in the telecom and retail sectors from both advanced and growth markets.

Foley’s appointment comes at a time when Telenor Pakistan aims to improve its consumer internet position with the recently awarded 3G license. Telenor Pakistan has a customer base of 35 million and ranks as the second largest operator in the country.

Ericsson names chief strategy officer, head of business Unit Modems

Ericsson has promoted senior vice president and member of its executive leadership team, Rima Qureshi, to SVP and chief strategy officer for Ericsson group.

In her new role, Qureshi will drive the company’s mergers and acquisitions strategy and will also serve as chairman of business unit modems.

Qureshi, who has nearly 30 years' experience in the global telecommunications and IT industry, joined Ericsson in 1993 and has been senior vice president and part of Ericsson's executive leadership team since 2010.
