Telekom Malaysia expanding in MEA

Telekom Malaysia has entered an alliance with the UAE's Etisalat allowing the Malaysian operator to extend its international services to a number of MEA countries.

Under the deal, Telekom Malaysia will link establish a multi-functional network node at Etisalat's SmartHub data center in the emirate of Fujairah.

Telekom Malaysia will use the facility to provide content, internet exchange, IPX and high speed data services to countries within Etisalat's footprint. These countries include Libya, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Tanzania.

Rozaimy Rahman, Telekom Malaysia's executive vice president for global and wholesale, said the company planned to use the alliance to “further strengthen our POP in the Middle East, thus enabling TM to create a value proposition as one of the key players in the Middle East region.”

He said the company is considering introducing a range of services, including IP transit, IP-VPN, Ethernet, International Private Leased Circuit, MPLS networks and voice hubbing.
