Telenor is ready to offer global 4G roaming services, after the launch of an LTE exchange by subsidiary Telenor Global Services (TGS).

TGS is the official LTE Exchange gateway for Telenor and its global operations, and will also offer 4G roaming connections to other operators through Telenor Global’s IPX network. The Roaming Exchange uses the diameter signaling protocol, and is offering guarantees on quality of service and security.

Rolv-Erik Spilling, executive vice president and dead of Telenor Digital, says those guarantees are important in maintaining the firm’s focus on network quality as a differentiator. “By having TGS as our LTE gateway, Telenor continues to utilize network sharing to improve quality positions in our markets,” he notes.

TGS’ exchange is currently serving Telenor’s Norwegian business and four peering partners, and will add additional Telenor operations as their LTE networks go live.

“For mobile subscribers, this means that they will have a seamless LTE roaming experience - which enables them to enjoy the same high levels of LTE speed and reliability abroad as at home. We are proud of being in the midst of helping people to get the full benefit of being connected”, says

Bjørn Iversen, TGS chief executive, says the exchange will offer a “seamless LTE roaming experience,” that matches subscribers’ experience in their home market.
