Telkom Indonesia has teamed up with ZTE to establish a research center focused on IPTV and OTT video technologies.

The companies' planned Joint Innovation Center will also seek to build partnerships with other IP-based video technology providers and develop new internet video services.

For Telkom, the tie-up will be a chance to expand the range of video services it offers to its customers, including to subscribers of its IndiHome broadband service.

In other OTT video news, PCCW subsidiary PCCW Media has arranged to acquire a majority stake in mobile video-on-demand service platform provider Vuclip.

PCCW Media said it expects the acquisition to help expedite the company's strategy of expanding its OTT digital video business beyond Hong Kong and into the Asia region and beyond.

Vuclip offers mobile VOD services in six markets - India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE and Egypt. The company plans to roll out to other Southeast Asian markets this year, and also has its sights on expansion in Africa and the Middle East.

“Our vision is to expand beyond Hong Kong by offering industry leading OTT services,” PCCW Media managing director Janice Lee said.

“Together, Vuclip and PCCW Media will develop a best of breed OTT platform that provides immediate access to PCCW Media’s premium Asian content set (including Korean, Japanese, and Chinese language content) across a much expanded audience base.”
