Indonesia's Telkomsel plans to expand to more international markets shortly, as it seeks to become the world's fifth largest mobile operator by subscribers.

Telkomsel plans to open offices in Taiwan and Macau next month, Bernama reported. The company also plans to open offices in Australia and Saudi Arabia later this year.

Parent company PT Telkom recently agreed to form a joint venture with Australian operator Telstra that will provide network applications and services to the Indonesian market. Now Telkomsel has its eyes on an Australian expansion.

Telkomsel has around 131.5 million mobile customers, making it the largest mobile operator in Indonesia and the sixth largest worldwide by subscribers, the report states. The company expects to be able to move up the list to number five shortly.

Telkomsel was one of 11 APAC operators who last month teamed up to form the Bridge M2M Alliance.
