Telstra announced an extension to its global network connectivity by opening a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Frankfurt and provision of a new low latency telecommunications route from Europe to Asia.

The new interconnection point gives Telstra two major entry points into Europe and access to the major telecommunications hub for Eastern Europe, providing more diverse access to the European market from Asia.

Meeting increasing customer demand for low latency access to Asia, Telstra is also providing a new low latency route from Europe to Asia. The route is regarded as one of the most reliable routes available, whilst the new PoP is ideally positioned within one of Europe’s most geographically central locations.

Once the Frankfurt PoP and new route go live in March 2012, they will be used to enhance support for Telstra’s customers throughout the region. The announcement underlines Telstra’s credentials as a leading Ethernet player in the international marketplace.

Telstra currently has over 1,400 PoPs in more than 230 countries and territories. Most PoPs are equipped to provide a full suite of bandwidth services, with a growing number able to offer IP Services and enable customers to connect into the major Internet exchanges and business customers.
