Thailand's Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) will deploy a GSM/GPRS-based system to read electric meters remotely.

The system, developed by local solutions provider Samart Telecoms, connects iWOW's iTegno GSM/GPRS modems using a RJ-45 interface EDMI Mk6N meters.

The system enables data transmission between the metering device and the central reporting system, allowing customers to have real-time checks and retrieval of information from the meter.

The project is aimed at reducing the time lag in data collection, and help customers streamline their business processes and system reporting.

Samart Telecoms will deploy some 30,000 units of this automated reading solution in 73 provinces in Thailand.
