The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested infrastructure sharing between different distribution platform operators (DPOs) like direct-to-home (DTH) and headend-in-the-sky (HITS) operators, between HITS and multi-system operators (MSOs), and among MSOs.

According to TRAI, this move will ensure optimum utilization of the available infrastructure.

Infrastructure sharing will also result in reduction in capital expenditure (capex) and operating expenditure (opex).

TRAI has issued a consultation paper titled “Pre-consultation Paper on Infrastructure sharing in Broadcasting TV distribution sector” discussing the scope for sharing of infrastructure used for delivery of broadcasting TV services
