Verizon Business, one of the most aggressive pursuers of 100 Gbps Ethernet transmission among the major telcos, has conducted another high-profile test of 100G technology, this time over the JANET research and education network in the U.K. The test was done last month, and involved transmission of 100G, 10G and 40G signals simultaneously over a 103-kilometer link between London and Reading.

The company, which likely will be moving to 100G transmissions commercially sometime next year, had looked to show that signal variety would not be an impediment and that different signals could co-exist on the same physical network without the need for an upgrade to support the higher bandwidths. Verizon also tested its ability to solve signal interference that it introduced on purpose.
