Verizon and IBM have joined forces to deliver private managed cloud service Managed Data Vault.

The new solution is available from both companies. It has been designed to automatically transfer data from a client location to an off-site data center.

Most companies still transport backup tapes by truck to off-site locations, IBM said, adding an extra layer of security concerns, complexity and cost to the data backup process.

"Managed Data Vault offers a broad array of enterprise data protection, not just for files, but for very large data stores and transactional database content,” IBM vice president Don DeMarco said.
