Demand for wireless video services is tipped to hit an all-time-high in 2011, after topping the wireless data charts in 2010, network management firm Bytemobile predicts.

Research by the firm shows that video generated 40% of global wireless data volumes in the past 12 months, and that the figure will grow to 60% over the course of 2011.

Demand for full-length movie downloads, live streaming and person-to-person video calls is fueling the growth, along with wider availability of smartphones.

As a result, carriers will continue to rely on capacity management systems to match demand for personal video communications, even as LTE networks come online, Bytemobile states.

Despite the growing global use of video, the age-old statistic that 10% of the global mobile subscriber base generates 90% of traffic will remain unchanged, the firm predicts.
