Vietnam's Vinaphone has doubled the peak speed of its 3G network to 42Mbps by deploying equipment from Nokia Networks.
The operator, a subsidiary of state-owned operator VNPT, has rolled out Nokia's Single RAN radio access network and other core network elements.
The upgrade project was also designed expand the reach of the 3G network and to lay the groundwork for an eventual upgrade to 4G services.
Vinaphone general director Nghiem Phu Hoan said the upgrade was motivated by growing demand for mobile services in Vietnam.
“As one of the country’s most preferred operators, we are bound to our commitment to offer a truly rewarding service experience to our subscribers, irrespective of the upsurge in wireless traffic,” he said.
“With Nokia Networks’ technical acumen and proven services expertise, we have further enhanced the overall efficiency of our 3G network, which is now set to deliver even better network coverage, capacity and throughput.”
Nokia Networks said it provides 3G radio equipment to 210 operator customers with a combined subscriber base of over 1 billion.
