Visa today announced that its Visa Checkout online payment service is now available in China, following launches in the United States, Australia and Canada in July 2014.

Visa Checkout is designed to improve the online checkout experience making payment as easy, simple and secure as Visa payWave, a contactless payment method, does in the face-to-face environment.

Optimized for mobile device use, Visa Checkout aims to make online, mobile and in-app payments easier for consumers to pay anytime, anywhere via smartphone, PC, or tablet. The product forms part of Visa’s Digital Solutions, a suite of products that facilitate secure payments across a broad range of Internet-connected devices.

China Merchants Bank (CMB) is the first financial institution in China to introduce Visa Checkout to its customers.

To use Visa Checkout, consumers will store their card, billing and shipping information securely with Visa once, and they never have to re-enter it when shopping online at merchants who offer Visa Checkout.

When a user sees the Visa Checkout button as a payment option, they simply log into their account and click a button to complete the purchase. In the meantime, consumers in newly-enabled markets, like China, will first be able to use Visa Checkout to buy from merchants in the US, Australia and Canada that accept Visa Checkout today and have the ability to process shipping internationally.

In the coming months in China, Visa will work with other Chinese financial institutions to deploy Visa Checkout through product development and system integration to encourage adoption by Chinese consumers.
