Xelerated has released its AX family of programmable wirespeed Ethernet switches, which it said is the first line of devices to allow network equipment vendors (NEVs) and carriers to use a unified Ethernet-based FTTx access solution for Active Ethernet, EPON, Gigabit-capable PON, 10G PON, long-term evolution and Wimax using a single design.

The AX family, a 100 Gigabit-ready series based on Xelerated's patented dataflow architecture, is optimized to deliver IPTV and Video-on-Demand with very high quality.

Fully programmable, the AX family allows for easy adaptation to carrier requirements and new access standards, such as DSL Forum WT-201 (TR101) and WT-145.

It also enables carriers and NEVs to extend the lifetime of access equipment from three to five years to 20-plus years.
