ZTE forges deals with Skytel and Spice

ZTE Corp announced yesterday that has it has signed UMTS contracts with Skytel of Mongolia and Spice Nepal.

Skytel, the leading CDMA mobile operator in Mongolia, will build a nationwide commercial UMTS network, making it the world\'s first to realize UMTS/CDMA convergence at the core network level, according to ZTE.

The company will provide Skytel with its SDR solution to enable HSPA data services to its customers and to support a smooth evolution to LTE in the future.

In the deal with Spice Nepal, the leading telecom operator in Nepal, ZTE will support the construction of the operator\'s GSM/UMTS network by providing ZTE\'s SDR solutions.

The GSM/UMTS network will cover six main zones of Nepal with the goal of providing high-speed network access to subscribers.

Phase I network deployment is expected to be completed by the end of October.
