ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, has announced the launch of the world's first XGS-PON terminal device, ZXHN F2866S, at the Broadband World Forum 2016. The terminal integrates multiple cutting-edge technologies including 10 Gigabit symmetrical passive optical networks (XGS-PON), 802.11ac Wave2, 10G Ethernet, and USB 3.0. In the big video era, ZXHN F2866S supports a full line rate of 10Gbps in both uplink and downlink. In addition to meeting home users' demand for superfast bandwidth, the device also allows connection to enterprise switches through 10Gbps Ethernet to satisfy Fibre to the office (FTTO) scenarios.

XGS-PON terminal and its ultra-wide bandwidth becomes the key development direction as a result of the exponential growth in big-video service for home users. The terminal supports 3×3 [email protected] and 4×4 11ac@5GHz DBDC Wi-Fi with the physical rate up to 2.2 Gbps, allowing users to enjoy multi-channel HD video streams and excellent service experience. In addition, the support for beam-forming greatly improves data transmission performance and implements larger and more stable Wi-Fi coverage. Compared with the single user multiple input, multiple output (SU-MIMO) feature of IEEE 802.11ac Wave, the multi-user (MU)-MIMO feature of IEEE 802.11ac Wave2 used in the terminal improves the utilization of WiFi networks by at least 30 percent because data can be simultaneously transmitted to four user groups. Supporting a USB 3.0 host interface, the terminal allows file sharing when connected to USB storage devices, as well as connection to a higher-rate long-term evolution (LTE) dongle for LTE access backup and bandwidth sharing.

ZTE is committed to promoting the commercial deployment of the 10G PON solution. As a leader in the Fibre to the x (FTTx) field, ZTE first launched the ASIC-based 8-port XG-PON1 board in the second half of 2013, one year earlier than other vendors and deployed it in the commercial networks of Orange Spain, China Mobile and Telkom Indonesia.

According to the Market Share Report: 2Q16 FTTx, DSL, and CMTS issued by research firm Ovum, ZTE topped both rankings on the global market share of next-generation PON products and on the overall growth of fixed-network access products from Q3 2015 to Q2 2016. The ZXHN F2866S, a new-generation XGS-PON gateway, can not only offer a symmetrical ultra-wide bandwidth experience for users, but will also speed up the commercial deployment of the XGS-PON solution.
