Two streaking teams battling for better playoff positioning in the Western Conference clash in Los Angeles tomorrow morning when the Los Angeles Lakers host the Golden State Warriors. The Western Conference standings are closely stacked, with the third-place Lakers just two games above the eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in spot. The Lakers, who labored to beat the Houston Rockets in their last game, are slight favorites to beat the fifth-place Golden State Warriors, who have won three road games straight.

Los Angeles Lakers
The LA Lakers (46-29) may be third in the Western Conference standings, but they keep looking back over their shoulders, as they can mathematically end up in the play-in tournament. With three wins from their last five games, the Lakers are giving it their best, but the competition for places in the West is atrocious. Coach J.J. Reddick tried to rally his troops ahead of the game with the Rockets, but the performance over the Houston Rockets on Monday night was underscored by the weary-looking superstars Luka Doncic and LeBron James reeling from 19 games in 35 days. Doncic led the Lakers with 20 points and nine assists, and LeBron James finished with 16 points and eight rebounds as the Lakers squeezed past the Rockets 104-98 at home. James has been listed as probable against the Warriors.
Everybody is paying attention, I can’t lie. Let’s be honest. Come on, man. Everybody be looking at the standings. We don’t want to be in the Play-In, so every game matters.
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors (44-31, fifth in the West) have hit form at an astute time with their seven wins from ten games, moving them up from the play-in spots to an automatic playoff place. The Warriors will round off their six-game road trip at Los Angeles, with a healthy return of 3-2, three consecutive victories following a pair of losses at the start. Yesterday, Stephen Curry hit 12 3-pointers for a total haul of 52 points to lead the Warriors to a pivotal 134-125 victory over the playoff-chasing Memphis Grizzlies. With the win, Golden State overtook the free-falling Memphis, which was as high as second in the middle of February. Jimmy Butler added 27 points and Draymond Green added 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Jonathan Kuminga is questionable for the visit to Los Angeles.
This year, in particular, it’s so close. People are jumping each other, falling behind, whatever the case may be. It’s not like I (do) it every day, but it’s talked about pretty much all the time. You kind of see where you’re at. For us, obviously, our mission is to lock in a playoff spot. We don’t want to have to play in the Play-In, so we understand what’s at stake.
