The five-match T20I series between India and Australia ended under familiar skies, as the decisive fifth and final match at The Gabba in Brisbane was abandoned due to persistent rain and lightning on Saturday.

India had raced to 52 for no loss in just 4.5 overs when the players were forced off, and with no improvement in conditions, the game was declared a no-result.
The washout confirmed India’s 2-1 series win, extending their dominance in the format with a fifth consecutive T20I series victory over Australia. The series had also begun with a rain-abandoned match, creating a sense of unfinished business that the weather never allowed to resolve.
India’s Confident Start Halted By Storm
Openers Abhishek Sharma (23 not out) and Shubman Gill (29 not out) provided a bright start despite early chances. Abhishek survived two dropped catches in the powerplay but settled quickly to time a pair of crisp boundaries. His unbeaten knock also took him past 1000 T20I runs in just his 28th innings, making him the second-fastest Indian to the milestone.
Gill, fluent from the outset, struck six boundaries as India appeared set for a commanding total before the weather turned severe. Safety warnings flashed on the stadium screens, with fans in lower seating areas told to move under cover.
Suryakumar: “Good Signs Ahead Of The World Cup”
India’s stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the squad’s adaptability and execution through the series.
Weather isn't in our control. Credit to all the boys for bouncing back after losing the first game. Our bowlers, fast and spin, know their roles really well and execute them. It’s a good headache to have ahead of the World Cup. We’ve got a few more series coming up which will help us build nicely.
He also acknowledged the excitement building back home following the women’s team’s World Cup triumph, saying the men’s side is “inspired and motivated by that energy.”
Marsh: “Lot Of Learning In A World Cup Year”
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh remained positive despite the series loss.
Can’t remember the last time we played without rain. Congrats to India on the win. There were a lot of positives for us, especially in terms of flexibility in a World Cup year. We’ll be back to full strength for the World Cup. The BBL will help us prepare.
Player Of The Series: Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek, who was named Player of the Series, credited team management for backing his natural game.
My captain and coach have given me clarity and the space to express myself. They’ve asked me to play freely and start big. The T20 World Cup would be a dream-come-true moment if I get the chance. I’ll make sure I’m ready.
The 24-year-old said he had been preparing specifically for the Australian challenge.
I was excited about this tour from the moment it was confirmed. I’ve really enjoyed the contests, especially facing Hazlewood. You need these battles to build momentum for your team.
