Barcelona women end Arsenal's streak with a thumping win

Arsenal had been unbeaten since February but Barcelona women altered that scheme in the Women’s Champions League. Barcelona won 4-1 in a dominating fashion as the former Arsenal player Asisat Oshoala tucked in a goal and an assist. Barcelona took a two-nil Half time lead and outplayed Arsenal throughout the match.

The first goal came via Mariona Caldentey who capitalized on a rebound off Oshoala’s miss. The Alexia Putellas received a lovely ball from Asisat and converted from the center of the box to make it two-nil before the first half ended. Then a Mariona’s through ball to attacker Asisat Oshaola who netted one from the center of the box made it three-nil.

Then Arsenal finally clinched a goal off a set-piece situation at the seventy-four-minute mark. In this situation, Beth Mead’s crossed and passed to Frida Maanum who nailed the sole goal for Arsenal. However, Barcelona put salt on Arsenal’s wounds just after ten minutes with Lieke Merterns scooping up a goal courtesy of a through ball by Patri Guijarro. Barcelona could have made it five-one but Alexia Putellas missed a penalty late in the stoppage time.
