Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, responded to a question regarding his willingness to sign Olympic champion Imane Khelif from Algeria, should she choose to transition to professional boxing.
Hearn was quoted by Marca as saying:
Yeah, I think if the facts were laid out, and it was a position where there’s no reason why this individual shouldn’t compete as a female. But certainly, if a fighter was deemed female, there should be no physical advantage particularly... But again, I haven’t seen anything; I’ve just seen someone say: ‘Yeah, we did this test and that’s how it goes.’ Do we get to see it, or are you just gonna believe that narrative?
Khelif became the Olympic boxing champion in the 66 kg weight category after winning the finals against China's Yang Liu by unanimous decision.
In the round of 16, the 25-year-old Khelif secured a victory over Italian boxer Angela Carini, who refused to continue the fight just 46 seconds into the first round. In the quarter-finals, Khelif defeated Hungary's Anna Luka Hamori, and in the semi-finals, she overcame Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng.
