Former Middleweight Boxing Champion Benvenuti Dies at 87

Former world middleweight champion Nino Benvenuti, who competed in the 60s and 70s of the last century, died at the age of 87 of cardiac arrest. This is reported by BoxingScene.

In 1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome, Benvenuti won a gold medal in the welterweight category. He had 82 wins (35 by knockout), seven losses and one draw in professional boxing.

Benvenuti last fought against Carlos Monzon in May 1971. Nino was defeated by technical knockout in the third round of that fight.
